Start small or go full body

Adjusting for a clean fit

A harness looks good only when every strap lies flat. Put it on loose, then adjust from the top down: neck or shoulders first, chest second, waist and hips last. The elastic styles have sliders on every strap, and the leather harness uses buckles. Straps should sit firmly without pressing marks into skin. Choose your size by bust and hips in our size guide; between sizes, go up and tighten.

Check the back in a mirror before you shoot, since straps that twist there are easy to miss from the front. Leave a finger of space under each strap for comfort through a long session.

How straps read on camera

Straps create contrast, so they photograph well in almost any light. Black elastic on bare skin gives the strongest line under a ring light, and gold tone rings catch light like jewelry in close ups. In mirror shots, turn a quarter away so the straps wrap visibly around the body.
